Position Openings



Meeting Logistics Manager


SUMMARY:
Responsible for managing meeting logistics and coordinating correspondence with advisory council and steering committee members. Provides support to various projects and initiatives in Online Services.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinates communication and outreach efforts with advisory council and steering committee members regarding their roles and responsibilities in producing the third edition of Elements of Effective Practice, a resource handbook for mentoring programs nationwide.
  • Manages meeting logistics for three in-person meetings per year, as well as multiple online meetings and internal meetings.
  • Oversees the production and distribution of meeting materials and documents.
  • Assists in creating, editing and proofing correspondence, meeting materials, web-based documents and related materials.
  • Provides on-site support to staff and members during meetings to include registration, set-up and assistance.
  • Manages relationships and monitors activities of vendors (e.g. hotels and travel agency).
  • Reviews and processes hotel and vendor invoices for all meetings.
  • Collects and manages feedback from the working group on their recommendations for the Elements of Effective Practice, third edition.
  • Coordinates outreach efforts to build awareness and implementation of the new Elements of Effective Practice throughout the mentoring community.
  • Assists with other daily administrative and support functions, including responding to telephone calls and requests and other general word processing, photocopying and faxing tasks.
  • Performs other duties and projects as assigned.

SUPERVISION: Reports to Vice President, Products and Online Services

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree and 2-4 years administrative experience with progressively increasing responsibilities. Additional experience may substitute for degree requirement. Must have experience in nonprofit administration and/or event planning. Excellent organizational and written communications skills and rigorous attention to detail required. Must possess strong word processing, database management, editing and proofing skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced, fluid environment. Must have strong interpersonal skills to develop and maintain cooperative and productive work relationships with others. A motivated self-starter with the ability to work on multiple projects is a must.

AmeriCorps*VISTA Leader

ORGANIZATION: MENTOR/National Mentoring Partnership
For nearly two decades, MENTOR/National Mentoring Partnership has been leading the movement to connect America's young people with caring adult mentors. MENTOR serves as the nation's premier advocate and resource for expanding quality mentoring initiatives. Working with a strong national network of Mentoring Partnerships, MENTOR leverages resources and provides the technical expertise, tools, and innovation that mentoring programs need to effectively serve young people in their communities.

POSITION SUMMARY: The role of the AmeriCorps*VISTA Leader is to provide support and coordination to VISTA members serving at State Mentoring Partnerships to increase the impact and use of MentorPRO. MentorPRO is a Web based evaluation and tracking tool, designed to help mentoring programs track and access data to better manage their Programs, manage mentoring Relationships and evaluate Outcomes.

SERVICE PERIOD: August 2008 – August 2009

LOCATION: Alexandria, Virginia

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Establishes frequent and proactive communication with 5 members to ensure they understand VISTA project benefits and requirements.
  • Assists VISTA Supervisor with ongoing support and responds to queries on all aspects of VISTA program.
  • Assists VISTA Supervisor with management of accounts and records of VISTAs to include updates, revisions, records and review of internal lists.
  • Assist VISTA Supervisor with coordination of VISTA member trainings and events.
  • Maintains log and identifies trends in VISTA member feedback to support VISTA project.
  • Assists VISTA Supervisor in creating, editing and proofing correspondence, enrollment materials, web-based documents and related materials for VISTA members.
  • Assist VISTA Supervisor with recruitment of additional VISTA members for upcoming projects.
  • Assists the VISTA Supervisor with other daily administrative and support functions, including responding to telephone calls and requests; coordinating and producing mailings; sending and tracking invoices; and other general word processing, photocopying and faxing tasks.
  • Assists with other projects and tasks as needed.

SUPERVISION: Reports to VISTA Supervisor, MENTOR’s Director of State Partnerships & State Affairs

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree preferred, one year of prior AmeriCorps*VISTA service required. Administrative and supervisory experience preferred. Strong customer service orientation, excellent organizational, written and oral communication skills required. Must possess strong word processing, database management, editing and proofreading skills. Experience with Microsoft Office required. Ability to work in a fast-paced, fluid environment, with strong interpersonal skills to develop and maintain cooperative and productive working relationships with others. A motivated self-starter with the ability to effectively manage multiple projects is essential. Must be willing to relocate if necessary and commit to one year of service.

BENEFITS: Stipend: $10,000 - $11,500, healthcare, life insurance, childcare expenses, and end-of-service cash stipend or educational award.

AmeriCorps*VISTA Member

POSITION SUMMARY: The AmeriCorps *VISTA is a one year community service opportunity with a focus on increasing the quality of youth mentoring programs through effective implementation of MentorPRO. MentorPRO is a Web based evaluation and tracking tool, designed to help mentoring programs track and access data to better manage their Programs, manage mentoring Relationships and evaluate Outcomes. This position provides administrative and program services support to Mentoring Partnerships and mentoring programs that use MentorPRO.

SERVICE PERIOD: August 2008 – August 2009

LOCATION: AmeriCorps* VISTA volunteers will be assigned to a State Mentoring Partnership office. These State Mentoring Partnerships provide critical hands-on training and technical assistance for mentoring organizations.

Position will be available in each of the following locations:
New York/Long Island, NY | Pittsburgh, PA | Baltimore, MD | Portland, OR | Issaquah, WA

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist MentorPRO® users (staff and program providers) in the enrollment process and perform data entry of mentoring program information.
  • Provide training and technical assistance to Mentoring Partnership staff and programs on all aspects of MentorPRO®.
  • Manage the accounts and records of users to include updates, revisions, deactivation of program records and review of internal lists.
  • Assist staff in analyzing data gathered through MentorPRO®.
  • Conduct quality reviews of individual mentoring programs to identify areas for improvement.
  • Conduct needs assessment of mentoring programs.
  • Establish frequent and proactive communication with MentorPRO® users to ensure they understand system benefits and requirements.
  • Recommend strategies to expand use of MentorPRO® throughout the state or related geographic areas.
  • Assist in creating, editing and proofing correspondence, enrollment materials, web-based documents and related materials, and other projects as needed.
  • Be a proactive member of the Mentoring Partnership staff team.

SUPERVISION: Reports to Mentoring Partnership Executive Director or designee and MENTOR Director of Mentoring Partnerships & State Affairs

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree preferred. An interest in mentoring and working with technology and web-based programs required. Customer service experience and an ability to work with diverse groups of people required. Candidate must possess excellent organizational, oral and written communication skills. Must be proficient in word processing, database management, editing and proofreading. Experience with Microsoft Office required. Must be willing to relocate if necessary and commit to one year of service.

Project Coordinator, Mentoring Partnerships and Public Policy

SUMMARY: The Project Coordinator is responsible for providing administrative support to the Whitehead Center for Mentoring Partnerships and State Affairs, and to the Institute for Public Policy and Government Affairs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Whitehead Center: (70-80%)

  • Keeps accurate and up-to-date database for state and local Partnerships, inactive Partnerships, and potential Partnerships.
  • Handles initial calls from individuals interested in starting a Partnership; determines what follow-up is needed; sends informational packets.
  • Responds to questions and concerns from the state and local Partnerships.
  • Coordinates all meeting logistics and materials for internal and external meetings.
  • Processes expense reports for team members.
  • Assists in creating, editing and proofing correspondence, conference materials, web-based documents and related materials.
  • Assists with other daily administrative and support functions, including responding to telephone calls and requests and other general word processing, photocopying and faxing tasks.
  • Performs other duties and projects as assigned.

Institute for Public Policy: (20-30%)

  • Prepares materials to be used in Hill visits that convey the status of mentoring within the Member’s state or district.
  • Provides general administrative support to Public Policy staff, including preparation of expense reports, mail merges and mailings.
  • Serves as a back-up on daily responsibilities of the Project Coordinator of Safety Net, a program that provides background checks on potential mentors.
SUPERVISION: Reports to the Special Advisor, Whitehead Center

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree and 2-4 years administrative experience with progressively increasing responsibilities. Strong organizational, interpersonal and written communications skills and attention to detail required. Must be accustomed to working at a fast pace and juggling several assignments simultaneously. Must also possess strong word processing, database management, editing and proofreading skills. Successful candidate will be a motivated self-starter and be comfortable working with more than one supervisor. The ability to handle and maintain confidentiality of sensitive material is essential.

Director, MentorPRO Basic

SUMMARY: This position will serve as the project director for MentorPRO Basic—an online data management system for the Mentoring Children of Prisoners: Caregiver's Choice program. Caregiver’s Choice is a three year program open to children aged 4-18 with parents incarcerated in state or federal facilities. The program connects caregivers with pre-approved, high-quality mentoring programs and financially supports the resulting mentoring relationships. The Director, MentorPRO Basic manages the day-to-day activities related to the system, conducts trainings and serves as the primary contact for MentorPRO Basic users.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitor project goals and objectives; modify or change methodology, as required, to redirect activities and attain objectives.
  • Develop and maintain regular means of communication with system users, including teleconferencing and ongoing support.
  • Working in conjunction with technical consultant, provide technical assistance and support to system users.
  • Maintain log of user feedback and work with designated MENTOR staff and consultants to manage the implementation of changes and updates to MentorPRO Basic.
  • Conduct regular trainings and demonstrations with various users.
  • Manage the relationship with contractors regarding support, maintenance and enhancements.
  • Assist with the development and use of MentorPRO, the parent product to MentorPRO Basic.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


SUPERVISION:
Reports to Vice President, Products and Online Services


QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree required with a minimum of 5 years project management experience. Must have knowledge of the non-profit arena and experience in managing large scale projects; preference for candidates with youth mentoring or volunteer management experience. Training experience a plus. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office and possess excellent oral and written communication skills. Must be organized, proactive and have a demonstrated ability to independently manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Must have strong interpersonal skills to develop and maintain cooperative and productive work relationships with others.
