Research In Action

MENTOR is pleased to announce the release of an innovative series - Research in Action - that translates the latest scholarly research on mentoring into tangible strategies for mentoring practitioners. This groundbreaking series, made possible by the generous support of the MetLife Foundation, makes the best available research accessible and relevant to practitioners, policymakers, and funders alike.

With solid research as the foundation, the mentoring field will make significant progress in closing the mentoring gap. Using the Research in Action series, programs can ensure their practices are based on current research, resulting in improved services and better impacts for young people. Policymakers and funders can use the series to make better decisions about how to assess quality and promote expansion without sacrificing quality.

"When MENTOR convened the first meeting of our Research and Policy Council, our aim was to close the gap between what we know and what we do by bringing together the field's leading practitioners, researchers and policy makers," states Gail Manza, executive director. "Research in Action, the first product of the Council, does just that; it puts the best available evidence in the service of quality mentoring. Congratulations to Dr. Jean Rhodes and David Van Patten, along with the entire Council for this important contribution."

Research - a peer-reviewed article, written by a leading scholar, summarizing the latest research available on the topic and its implications for the field;

Action - tools, activities, templates, or resources, created by MENTOR, with concrete suggestions on putting theory into practice;
